Eros by Versace, for men

12 October 2012

With Donatella Versace holding Lady Gaga’s hand as they made a special appearance during the Milan Fashion Week SS2013 showcase, it’s no wonder Versace is back on track when it comes to creating a buzz. Donatella is now preparing to launch a new men’s fragrance, the first from Versace in over five years.

Created by Aurelien Guichard of Givaudan, Eros for Men is named after the mythological Greek god of love who is the son of the goddess Aphrodite, and it oozes with a strong masculine allure. This Greek reference can be founded back to the maestro and founder Gianni Versace who frequently expressed his love for Greek mythology and history while growing up in southern Italy, where he founded the Versace fashion house and incorporated the iconic Medusa head logo that will be used to adorn the new perfume’s bottle as well as the tip of the cap. This represents a return to the roots of Versace as Donatella expresses “I have focused a lot on men’s recently, and this was a chance to do something for men, something that speaks desire”. The end result is a new fragrance that carries all the hallmarks and roots of the classic Versace imprint from the packaging, the name, scent and advertising as Donatella herself asserts “for me the fragrance is very iconic, it’s really the DNA of Versace”.

The scent can be described as a fresh, woody oriental allure with top notes of mint oil, lemon Italian Orpur and green apple that decadently blooms into a heart of tonka beans, Venezulan ambroxan and geranium flower. The advertising campaign will feature a model portraying a Roman gladiator who fights for what he wants to be a master of himself, a man who defends his ideas and opinions and stays true to his cause.

Set to be unveiled later this month in France, the fragrance will officially hit stands globally come spring 2013.
